Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health care is a complex issue, that many medical students and doctors still struggle to understand and manage throughout their medical careers. The aim of this event is to promote awareness for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health care, in order to improve this knowledge gap. The night will include a discussion panel that will focus on key themes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health such as racism in the health care system, access to health care and health disparities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Dinner will also be provided by an Indigenous-owned catering company called the “The Three Little Birds”. This will include native cuisine that celebrates the traditional foods of local Aboriginal people in South-East Queensland. All Indigenous and non-Indigenous UQ medical students are welcome to this event.
