UQMind is gearing up for our third Book Club of the year!
The book we have chosen for this book club is ‘Flowers of Algernon’, written by American author Daniel Keyes. Flowers for Algernon is a science fiction short story about Charlie Gordon, a developmentally disabled man who is the first human subject to undergo a surgical procedure that will dramatically increase his mental capabilities. This procedure has already been performed on Algernon, a laboratory mouse, with success. The story is told by a series of progress reports written by Charlie, and it touches on ethical and moral themes such as the treatment of the mentally disabled.
